Nick Payne - Strategy & Operations
Nick is a highly accomplished media and business Chief Executive Officer and Finance Director with key expertise in turnaround, business development, M&A, finance, strategy formulation & implementation, joint-venture management and franchising gained in FMCG brands, B2B services, retailing, entertainment and consulting, across international businesses and SME’s.
Nick has a MA from Oxford, is a Chartered Accountant. He has worked at a global multi-media start-up in the film industry, Thorn EMI Screen Entertainment as CFO, lead a world class music organisation, EMI Records as CFO, and successfully led a MBO at Kleencare Europe as CEO, as well as various Venture Capital projects including with Sir Richard Branson.
Nick’s role is to help organise and support the Board in determining and monitoring company strategy, as well as using his financial and operational experience to facilitate Martial Arts TV’s ongoing success. Nick is the active and wise guiding hand in our mission to achieve global success.
Patrick O’Connor-Read - Founder & CEO
Patrick is the founding entrepreneur of Martial Arts TV and provides vision, energy and drive into the business in order to realise the collective goal of building the world’s most successful martial arts brand.
Patrick has worked as a Live TV Producer at sit-up.tv, one of the world’s most successful interactive retail TV groups. Patrick attended Law school in the UK, training as a non-practising Barrister. He is an alumni of business & management programs at London Business School, Cambridge University, & MIT Sloan in Massachusetts. Patrick also attended production focused programs at UCLA in California and the UK’s National Film & TV School.
Patrick has also trained as a martial artist in the UK, Europe and the Far East and is a keen consumer of martial arts media, in all it’s forms. Patrick brings passion, organizational skills and ambition to the project. Patrick is driven to achieve Martial Arts TV’s mission for global success.
Graham Beswick - Business Development
Graham is one of the most successful and well connected professionals in the UK and international entrepreneurial world. He has at various times, been a Chartered Accountant, serial entrepreneur, film industry executive and Mentor and Strategic Advisor to several start-up and fast growing businesses.
Graham was the first Commercial Director of NBAN and a founder Director of the BANA. Graham Beswick qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand in 1989 and spent over 4 yrs in international business development for the film industry.
His business interests have included noise reduction technology, clothing distribution, animation studios, record labels, jewellers, artificial intelligence, angel investment networks and a beverages business. Graham makes things happen, sorts out problems and connects people. Graham brings a personable, flexible, but steely determination to the business.
Donald Miller-Jones - Investment & Growth
Donald Miller-Jones is a highly experienced angel investor and world class Finance Director with experience in the cable, telecommunications, film, music and pharmaceutical industries.
Most recently, Donald was an advisor to, and latterly CFO for NASDAQ Listed Moscow Cablecom Corp, which raised $52m institutional money for a cable system roll out in Moscow. Previously, Donald was CFO for 18 months at a Polish NASDAQ listed cable company, At Entertainment, Inc, which had consolidated revenue of US$154 million for 1999. From 1995-98 Donald was FD for United Pan-Europe Communications N.V, an Amsterdam-based start-up JV in 1995 between Philips and United International Holdings of Denver, which had consolidated revenues of US$170 million in 1997. From 1988 to 1995 he was VP, Treasury & Investor Relations at PolyGram NV. Polygram NV was quoted on the NYSE and Amsterdam Stock Exchanges with revenues in 1995 of US$5.5 billion. Major financings Donald arranged for PolyGram included a US$300 million securitised film financing facility and a US$850 million revolving credit facility in a bank syndication led by Citibank in 1994.
In addition, Donald held progressively senior positions from his start at Tate & Lyle, Schlumberger Wireline Services, SmithKline Beecham and Ernst & Young. Donald is a Chartered Accountant and Corporate Treasurer.
Donald is a key non-executive advisor and investor in the business, with a wealth of global media contacts and significant finance connections.
Bernard Kelly - Investor & Advisor
Bernard has extensive experience of the film, TV, radio and music industries leading some of the world’s most recognised and successful media brands including HMV, Paramount & Universal, MTV, and EMI. Bernard’s valued contribution includes strategy, operations & finance.
Bernard was Director of Finance for HMV Shops Limited between 1978-82, and between 1982-86 was Director of Financial Control, Thorn EMI Screen Entertainment. From there he moved on as Director of Finance, Manufacturing and Distribution, for EMI Music between 1986-87. During 1987-89 he was Director of Corporate Finance, EMI Music and from 1989-96 was VP & CFO, CIC International, J/V Paramount & Universal. From 1997-2000 Bernard was Chief Finance Officer, MTV Europe. From 2000-2003 he was Finance Director of the RSA. He now works as Finance Director for the RPS of GB.
Tony Brill - Key Advisor
Tony is a very experienced and globally respected media professional with deep contacts and knowledge of the UK, European, Latin American and North American TV markets. He has worked with start-ups, mature business and publicly listed broadcasters.
He was Group CEO of Life TV Media, Group MD of the Christian Channel Europe, MD Tyne Tees TV, and MD of Granada TV.
Tony helps formulate company strategy, provide access to his contact network, and structure commercial deals with key partners (advertisers, transmission, content, mobile, & shopping). Tony provides wise counsel for the business, helping find and construct solutions to problems and capture new opportunities.
